Eleanor Claire Johnson

Eleanor Claire Johnson

Artist · Filmmaker · Contemplative

“Today I see myself as a 'holder' of sanctuary.”

Her mission

Her mission is to help raise consciousness and build a better world by using art to heal the deep wounding that lies embedded in the recesses of the human psyche, and by so doing to lift the Spirit and point individuals and humanity in the direction of love and reverence for life, authentic peace and compassion, reconciliation and hope.

The Practice

Feeding Your Demons

A contemplative method for meeting fear, anger, and the patterns that undermine a life. Not by fighting them. By feeding them.

The Laboratory

Emmatroupe

An experimental interdisciplinary theatre laboratory in lower Manhattan since 1976. Truth in art, and the ethics and aesthetics of the spiritual in art.

The Life

About Eleanor

Fifty years of practice across New York, Paris, India, and the Pacific Northwest. A life in art as an act of faith in the world.

“The great philosopher Wittgenstein said that 'Words are pictures and pictures hold us captive.' My aim as a contemplative-in-the-world is to speak to people's hearts and souls, by using words, images, and sounds, as stepping stones to a deeper reality, a reality that once touched upon will evoke a transformative healing response in the audience.”
